What Is Lexicographia?

Lexicograhia is an open-source progressive web application that allows lexicographers to write and publish their own dictionaries. It is focused on to give all the tools that a lexicographer may need, while saving its simplicity and ease of use.

Here are some of the reasons why Lexicographia must exist:

What Is The Idea Behind This?

The idea behind Lexicographia is to end the era of printed dictionaries. They are expensive to publish, difficult to prepare, non-updatable, and can be hard to find, especially if the dictionary doesn’t belong to a popular language or focuses on a specific field.

On the other hand, Lexicographia is completely free to use, and it is easy to find or release a dictionary for everyone. It has been developed to be as compatible with all languages as possible.

Additionally, many dictionaries today are prepared on databases and published online, even the printed ones. This makes them easier to use for researchers. Therefore, the Lexicographia Project addresses the challenges of online publishing, leaving lexicographers to focus solely on lexicography.

If you would like to prepare a dictionary or if your dictionary is already completed but you don't know how to publish it online, Lexicographia can handle it for you.

Lexicographia can also generate statistics, such as how many words are in your dictionary, how many of them originally come from another language, how many are verbs, adjectives, and, if your dictionary is for a language like Arabic or Hebrew, how many words are based on the same root.

Who Is Behind This?

Lexicographia is a project by Savaş Şahin, a web developer, translator, and linguistics enthusiast who researches the field as a hobby.

Which Technologies Does Lexicographia Use?

Lexicographia is built with Next.js on the client side and Fastify on the server side. It uses raw CSS for styling and MongoDB as the database.
